12 Kits of Christmas {January}

Renee had a great idea to get a head start on Christmas cards. We all (well, most of us it seems) wait until the last month or so before Christmas to get started on our cards. With everything else going on at that time of year we often feel rushed and may or may not get all our cards completed. I usually have to buy a box of cards to help fulfill my list. Not this year! By the time December gets here I will have at least 12 cards completed (probably more). Each month a different one of us will host the 12 Kits of Christmas, providing a kit for each of the other 11 ladies whom Renee has asked to participate. This month Renee started us off right with a beautiful kit full of die cuts and ribbons that I don't already have. It was so much fun to create with PTI's In The Meadow and the cool window die!

Another goal I had this year was to make my Christmas cards more mailable. Well, I blew it on this card:) That window just really made want to create depth and dimension behind it as if you are looking out your living room window.

Maybe next month!

Here is a photo of the kit contents. The only thing I added that was not included in the kit was some glitter, the Peace die cut, and a little stamping on the window. Renee really filled her kit with so many wonderful pieces to choose from. I'm sure you will see more pieces pop up on future cards!

A whole year has passed since I started highlighting my favorite projects of the week. I have to admit, though, that after pinning I don't often go back into the file for inspiration when I'm making a card. I'm sure in one way or another your beautiful designs are influencing me. This year I want to revisit each week's pins, choose one, and use it as a starting point for a project. So, next week I'll have a card inspired by something from way back in week 1!
I still plan to pin new projects, too!

Damask Love Do-Over Blog Hop and a Giveaway

Amber is hosting a little Do-Over Blog Hop. Aren't there projects that you have made that you thought, "Well, that didn't turn out the way I had hoped"? Or maybe at the time you thought it looked pretty good, but now it makes you cringe just a little. That's how I feel about the card I made for a challenge awhile ago (at bottom of post).

I used the same color and the same sentiment. It's still one layer (sort of) and minimal, but I love it so much more than the original.

I used what was left of the patterned paper I had created for this card to create the banner strips.

I made this (Raspberry Fizz) card last year for a PTI Stamp-a-Faire challenge. I love it so much that I still have it. I haven't been able to part with it! Maybe now that I have one in blue I can let the pink one go:) What I like about it most is that I was able to use a bright color, and a lot of it, in a way that was still very pleasing to me. I usually have a hard time with bright colors. I tend to only like it in small doses, but this card has bright all over it! I decided to make the one in blue using another color that I love, Hawaiian Shores, but can only use in small doses, usually! I love this one as much as the original. I can't wait to see what you have done!

I have to say I love the Chocolate Brown ink! It has such great coverage. I was surprised.

Good Morning!

Time for another ColourQ Challenge! I was so happy when I saw this palette. Why? Kraft! I seem to go through phases with my kraft cardstock. While I always love it, I sometimes don't use it at all. Then, for awhile, I will use it on every card. It's been awhile since I've used it and was glad for the push from this challenge.

Views is a professional magazine put out by RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf). In the most recent issue, one article provided me with the inspiration for this card. I loved the overlapping speech bubbles in this article's artwork and thought I could recreate it with this cute stamp from Wplus9.

I have been having some issues with viewing blogs on blogger lately so

Welcome back to another ColourQ Challenge. This week's colors are really deep, rich, and beautiful. They are way out of my comfort zone! I tried many things before I could use them in a way that works for me! If these are not colors that you reach for often, challenge yourself, like I did, to make them work for you! I can't wait to see what you come up with. This color palette finally pushed me to use Royal Velvet, a color that has been sitting here, unused, for some time. I went back to Pinterest again this week for some design inspiration. I loved Gayatri's card. She used some bold colors on her card and I thought it might work here:)

2012 Valentine's Day Card Drive

Winter Sims, for the 3rd year, is collecting cards for a great cause! She will make sure your cards are delivered to special children in the hospital. I whipped up a few today to send off to her. Winter needs the cards in her hands by January 31st in order to make sure the children will have them in time for Valentine's Day. She has some great companies backing her card drive and providing prizes to encourage everyone to participate. Just make sure that you read the requirements on Winter's blog before you start creating!

Urgent {Hugs and Kisses}

Love these little Love Note Dies from Wplus9! Some of the tiny stamps from the PTI Postmarks set fit perfectly on the little letter. My initial reaction to the PTI inks was not so great, but after using them more I have been getting better results. I don't know if it is me or the ink, but I after the result improved I decided to order more colors and I'm really happy with those as well! I still hate the lid design though!

ColourQ Challenge #118

The first ColourQ of the new year and the colors are wonderful! So bright and vibrant and so different from the Christmas palettes I have been working with for the past few months. I love those colors too, but this is such a nice change!

I recently purchased a few distress inks and couldn't wait to try them out. For this project I stamped the dahlias and leaves onto watercolor paper with Versamark ink and then embossed them with white embossing powder. I then painted the areas in using a paint brush, water, and the distress inks. I absolutely love the effect.

I was so inspired by the most recent PTI Design Team post. They pulled out a set that I really love, but haven't used in awhile, All Booked Up. I loved the way Pine added the block alphabet die cut letters to her project and couldn't wait to try it. I added a shadow, in canyon clay cardstock, to each letter to make them stand out. I also stamped the white background piece with butterflies in canyon clay ink to tie into the butterflies on the focal image and bring in more of the canyon clay color.

Good Morning! It's Friday, any good plans? What do you do on New Year's Eve? We are having a small get together at our house tonight. Tomorrow we plan to go out to a nice dinner (early), rent movies, and be home by 8pm ish. We do this every year. We like to celebrate low key and be off the roads before people start drinking and driving. It's just not worth it to us to be out on New Year's Eve.

I have new cards and projects posted to the The File labeled #48. I'm trying to decide how I can reinvent this feature for the new year. I'd love to host some sort of challenge using one of the projects from the week or something. One of my goals for the new year though, is to spend less time online. I love to blog and look at all of the beautiful blogs, but sometimes I feel like I get home from work, before I know it I've killed two hours on the computer, eat dinner, walk the dog, and then it's 8:00. Maybe I'll have to set some rules for myself, like no blogging until after I exercise. We'll see, I'll have to think about this more:)

Papertrey Ink December Blog Hop: Leftovers

This month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop challenge is to use up those holiday leftovers! There is always tons of tissue paper leftover from wrapping and unwrapping gifts. I used the washi tape technique to make the strips along the left side of the card.

My cousin just told the family that she and her husband are expecting their first baby! So I made this card for them!

We're having Christmas at my house this year. Usually we go to my mom's. I wanted to do a few extra special decorations this year so my dad helped me decorate the chandelier. It's so much prettier in person and with the light on the dimmer at night I just love it!

Make It Monday #45 Coloring Embossed Images With Copics

I already posted a card today, but when I saw this week's Make It Monday things just came together. I was very inspired by this pattern and had been thinking a lot about how to reproduce it with my houndstooth stamp. I knew there was no way I could ink each section individually with different colored ink pads with out making a mess. Embossing it with white powder and coloring over each section with a different Copic was the perfect solution!

Just a simple little card today using Wplus9's new set Heartfelt Mix. I loved the multi strand curved line and the little clothespins! I have other heart stamps, but the patterns on these are worth adding to my collection. I especially love the one that looks a little like tread.

This week's ColourQ Challenge has a special twist. Use these colors to create anything you want.............except a card! I have all of my Christmas cards done so I decided to make a little notebook to keep all of those holiday ideas in one place. Now I won't forget all of those gift ideas, dinner menu ideas, and a million other things!

I masked the rectangle on this project twice. First I masked off the area around the rectangle and stamped the words inside. Then I masked off the inside of the rectangle and stamped all of the snowflakes around it.

PTI November Blog Hop and FIF#43

I love this month's blog hop inspiration photo. I love that it's all red and white with a bit of greenery. My card uses this color scheme as well as the scale of prints on the fabrics. The chair and the pillow have the same pattern in different sizes. I used PTI's BB Houndstooth to create the same effect on the words and the background.

I die cut the word holiday in red to layer with the stamped word like I saw Dawn do in one of her videos. I love this effect and in this case it made the word easier to read.

Make It Monday #42

This week's Make It Monday challenges us to use sentiment stamps as part of our background. This was the perfect inspiration for me to create a card and wine tag for a little hostess gift for Thanksgiving.

I don't have the special wine bottle die. I just cut the strip 3 inches wide. Cut the triangle out of the bottom and used the Limitless Layers die to cut a hole. Really easy!

This is the first set I ever bought from Papertrey Ink, First Fruits, and I still love it!

I love this pocketful set and it hasn't lost its place on my desk yet. Another nephew is having a birthday and I love this paper airplane image for a boy themed card. I have 5 nephews and have always been fascinated and sometimes puzzled by the items boys choose to carry around in their pockets. It's always such a random mix of things, a special this, a favorite that. This is still true for my husband. At night, when Ryan empties his pockets, he produces some interesting things;)

Make It Monday: Brayer Techniques

This week's technique is using a brayer to add ink to an embossed design. I don't have a brayer and couldn't envision myself using one enough to warrant a new purchase. Instead I used a baby wipe, folded up, to add the ink to my design. I first dabbed the baby wipe on the lightest color ink pad several times until I picked up enough color. Then I swiped the paper back and forth moving up towards the top of the project. The I switched to the medium value ink pad and repeated the process. Then again with the darkest. Because the baby wipe is damp, it blends the inks beautifully. I dried the piece with my heat tool and I was done!

A nice flat, holiday card! Love these cool colors on a winter holiday themed card. I used PTI's new inks. My review: Long awaited and slightly overrated. I love having matching colors for my cardstock, ribbon, and buttons, but they do not provide solid "amazing" coverage. Images are blotchty. The new pad/case design is small and difficult to close securely. I had hoped for better performance with such rigorous testing being performed before their release. Not sure I'd order any more colors.

There has been a thread on the PTI forum about favorite adhesives for adding glitter and shine to a project. I love using the adhesive sheets. They can be die cut, cut, and punched into any shape imaginable. You get great coverage with the glitter. For this project I die cut the word and adhered it to the card before adding the glitter. For the star, I adhered a piece of the sticky sheet to a piece of cardstock first, then die cut it, and finally added the glitter. This way the star can be placed anywhere on the project.

My Favorite Place

Just a little peek inside my craft room! I took them with my iPhone so they are a little grainy. I love my new space. It still needs some more things on the walls and I want to refinish the tabletop on my work surface, but I love it. I love just being in there even if I am just writing out bills or checking email on my phone! To the left of my desk is a huge double window that looks out at the front of the house. I can watch *my* birds fly into the tree and the neighborhood kids playing.

It's Friday once again! Ryan and I hate a nice little dinner out for our 'date'. We both just needed to get out and relax. Make It Monday: Faux Watercolor Technique

This week's MIM is a faux watercolor technique using dye inks. I stamped my dragonflies in white and the went over the ink with my aqua pen. The I decided to use my pen and pick up ink directly from the ink pad and 'paint' the color onto the stamped image. It was so simple and the effect is so soft and mimics the beautiful, translucent look of real wings.

I loved this background stamp set from Wplus9 the moment that I saw this card that Dawn made! I wondered about the name, Fair Isle, so I checked into it. Makes perfect sense now! The set includes so many background stamps as well as a few individual stamps that let you create your own pattern, like I did here.

Hi! Just a bright card to break up the orange and brown streak I've been on lately. I absolutely love this houndstooth set. I think it's my favorite background set ever. It's so easy to line up, looks great in any color, and is perfect for layering with other images.

As I was creating this card I felt myself heading towards a layout that I go to all the time. I resisted and headed to my Pinterest for some inspiration. I chose to use a design that Debby recently created. I love it!

For this week's Inspiration File, I have decided to do something a little different. I love the idea of seeing all of the photos at once. Clicking back and forth can sometimes be a hassle, especially if (like me) you check blogs at 6am while eating cereal, feeding the dog, and making coffee! All that in 11 minutes too! So I have decided to create a new Pinterest pin board just for the week's beautiful projects. I end up pinning them there anyway...why not save a step.

This week's Make It Monday is all about making your own chipboard accents using your dies. For my project I used 5 layers of Grungeboard from Tim Holtz. It worked really well! I stamped on a layer cut out of cardstock with the houhdstooth background set in Enchanted Evening Ink. I loved the ornament that Erin Lincoln made for the PTI countdown and wanted to make some for gifts this year.

Gorgeous new colors from CR84FN challenge!! I first stamped the hounds tooth design in Summer Sunrise ink. Then using Tangelo ink I stamped the sunflowers. The centers are stamped using Cocoa Bean ink. I didn't want to cover up this pattern, but needed to add a sentiment. I decided to cut the 'happy' out of brown cardstock and stamp the 'birthday' in dark brown ink. I love how the sentiment is a real focal point without hiding the cool pattern behind it!

Papertrey Ink's September Blog Hop challenges us to use yet another beautiful inspiration photo as the starting point for our project. I wanted to replicate the colors as well as the stripes in this photo. I chose to not use all of the colors together, but rather group them into color combinations that worked best for me. This first card is my favorite of the two. I have always loved blue and orange together!

This second card is more vibrant and reminds me of my mom.

I used these beautiful colors from The Play Date Cafe's 100th color challenge!

I really love Wplus9's Pocketful stamp and die concept. I have seen so many great projects using their products, but I don't own any. So I set out to create my own. I drew and cut out my pocket and then stamped the stitching with a stamp from Button Boutique. Then I filled my pocket with beautiful sunflowers.

Hello! Beautiful new colors to challenge you this week from the ColourQ!!

I love this inspiration photo. It inspired me to get out my watercolors and play around. While I really liked the results I got, the colors (when dry) didn't really match this week's colors. I'll save that piece and use it on another project soon:)

Instead I came up with this card for this week's challenge. I have decided to finally accept that summer is ending and I'm trying to embrace the coming season:)

To create a mat for your die cut shapes like I did with the Fillable Frames, lay your die onto the paper and trace. Since the die itself is slightly larger than the die cut it creates a perfect little border when layered together! I learned this little tip from Sarah.

Friends Are Flowers

Ryan and I spent Friday night finishing up the painting in my craft room. Saturday he replaced all of the outlets and outlet covers, put on the new doorknob, and put the closet doors back on. After that we loaded all of the furniture back into the room. I was finally able to get back in and make a few things last night and today! I got my PTI Blog Hop cards done last night and this card I made this afternoon. I still have a few more projects to work on in the room before I post pictures, but consider this card a peek into the room. The walls are painted in a color similar to Aqua Mist, but a little less aqua and more blue. I originally wanted to have red as my accent color, but then I was reminded how much I LOVE orange and blue together!!

We're working hard on my craft room! The first week of school is over! Whew! I'm beat. It was a great week. All of the teacher's on my team this year are great, but am I ready for some relaxation. Sunday is my birthday and my husband is painting my craft room for me! I have never shown my space on my blog because of the hideous color of the room! It's a room we haven't gotten to redoing since we bought our house, but now it's time. We have been referring to it as "the skin room" if that gives you any indication of the bland, yucky color that it is. Think really bad self tanner! Ha!

I'm excited to see the room transformed.

Make It Monday #31: Creating Backgrounds

This week's Make It Monday focuses on one of my favorite things to do with my stamps.....create my own backgrounds! I love using the unusual little stamp in a set to create something unique!

For this bold graphic background I have used the bottom of the cupcake stamp from Everyday Classics and the single dot stamp from Daydreamer.

The bold green color on the cream cardstock was inspired by Tuesday's Trigger. The main focus of the photo is a bold pattern on the chair in green and cream/white. The small side table inspired the touch of brown.

I hope you are having a great week. My first week of school is going really well. It is so good to see all of the students again. Since I interpret for one student, I follow her from grade to grade. Each year I am with the same group of students and it is fun to watch them grow, change, and learn!

Make It Monday #30: Colored Pencils

This is my second card for this week's Make It Monday, using colored pencils to color your stamped images.

After stamping the flower and embossing it with white powder I colored each section with a white colored pencil. To smooth out the color and remove any pencil lines I used odorless mineral spirits and a blending stick.

Felt iPhone Cover

A while ago I saw this felt phone cover.

I've said before and I'll say again......I can't sew! But I know someone who can ;)

My Mom!

(The phone fits all the way down inside. I just pulled it out a bit for the photo)

We sat down together and planned out the color scheme so that I knew how many and of what color to make all of my die cuts. Then I handed it all off to her. Well yesterday she finished it. Isn't it just gorgeous? I love it.
